Description: Data was collected to monitor the use and conditions of the sites on a "short-term" and "long-term" basis. For the "short-term" study, data was collected for five consecutive days at the facilities located along the Interstate routes during August 2009 and bi-weekly, as feasible for the individuals monitoring the sites, of all the Park and Ride sites for the "long-term" study beginning in September 2009.

Description: A polygon coverage of cities with a population greater than 10,000 located in West Virginia. Cities were downloaded from the U.S. Census Bureau's TIGER/Line Shapefiles. For the 1990 files, the locations and attribute values are from the U.S. Bureau of the Census 1990 Summary Tape File 1C (STF-1C). For the 2010 files, the WV GIS Technical Center added population and demographic attributes from U.S. Census Bureau American Fact Finder.Supplemental InformationArea, Total Population, FIPS codes, Race, Age, Gender, Housing, Families

Description: The Rail Network is a comprehensive database of West Virginia's Railway System at 1:24,000 to 1:100,000 scale as of April 1. 2022. Data was obtained from the US Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Statics United States Railroad Feature Class. which can be found here: https://geo.dot.gov/server/rest/services/Hosted//North_American_Rail_Lines_VT/VectorTileServer. Data was then verified against imagery, official railroad division timetables and track diagrams and publicly obtained radio dispatching frequencies. Information included in this feature are FRA Railroad Node to and From, railroad line ownership, railroad owner short, railroads that have trackage rights over the line, passenger service on the line (Amtrak, Maryland Area Rail Commuter Agency (MARC), Tourist Lines, etc.), Railroad Division, Railroad Subdivision, Railroad Dispatcher. Data is then matched up up to WV GIS Tech center mosaic and cleaned up. Additional railroad lines are added where there are multiple tracks to represent the railroad line.

Description: The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) is a feature-based database that interconnects and uniquely identifies the stream segments or reaches that make up the nation's surface water drainage system. NHD data was originally developed at 1:100,000-scale and exists at that scale for the whole country. This high-resolution NHD, generally developed at 1:24,000/1:12,000 scale, adds detail to the original 1:100,000-scale NHD. (Data for Alaska, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands was developed at high-resolution, not 1:100,000 scale.) Local resolution NHD is being developed where partners and data exist. The NHD contains reach codes for networked features, flow direction, names, and centerline representations for areal water bodies. Reaches are also defined on waterbodies and the approximate shorelines of the Great Lakes, the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the Gulf of Mexico. The NHD also incorporates the National Spatial Data Infrastructure framework criteria established by the Federal Geographic Data Committee.Update October 2018

Description: *This layer is primarily composed of U.S. Census Data, but also contains updated polygons for incorporated places that have submitted annexed town boundaries to the WVDOT.Incorporated places are concentrations of population such as cities, towns, and villages, thathave legally prescribed boundaries, powers, and functions. Incorporated Places weredownloaded from the U.S. Census Bureau's TIGER/Line Shapefiles 2023.Demographic data was joined to this feature class in the following fields:PopCalcYear contains the year that the PopCalc data is from.PopCalc contains total population estimates 2018-2022, Table DP05,PopDecYear contains the year of the latest biennial census survey.PopDecCount contains the 2020 official U.S. census population count.

Description: National Forest Boundaries were developed by the United States Forest Service and aggregated as a part of USGS's Protected Areas Database, a subset of the National Gap Analysis project. There are several datasets available, each clipped to different extents or containing unique information. Each dataset is described below:National Forest Proclamation Boundaries, 2017. These data has been clipped to the West Virginia boundary and contains the full extents of lands within the Monongahela, George Washington and the Jefferson National Forests. Since these are proclamation boundaries, the forest service does not own all land within the boundary, but may operate within the area.National Forest Surface Ownership Boundaries, 2017. These files contain polygons of the lands within the proclamation boundaries of each forest that the USFS actually owns and/or manages.National Forests of the Surrounding Region, 2017. These files are the complete boundaries of the National Forests that abut or are proximal to West Virginia.
