<![CDATA[The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) is a feature-based database that interconnects and uniquely identifies the stream segments or reaches that make up the nation's surface water drainage system. NHD data was originally developed at 1:100,000-scale and exists at that scale for the whole country. This high-resolution NHD, generally developed at 1:24,000/1:12,000 scale, adds detail to the original 1:100,000-scale NHD. (Data for Alaska, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands was developed at high-resolution, not 1:100,000 scale.) Local resolution NHD is being developed where partners and data exist. The NHD contains reach codes for networked features, flow direction, names, and centerline representations for areal water bodies. Reaches are also defined on waterbodies and the approximate shorelines of the Great Lakes, the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the Gulf of Mexico. The NHD also incorporates the National Spatial Data Infrastructure framework criteria established by the Federal Geographic Data Committee. The coordinate system is UTM Zone 17(NAD83).Data as of October 2018]]>

The NHD also incorporates the National Spatial Data Infrastructure framework criteria established by the Federal Geographic Data Committee.Update October 2018]]>

The routes in this dataset are derived from the WV Enterprise LRS route network, which includes all roadways, regardless of ownership. Each route is assigned a unique 13, 17, or 18 digit alphanumeric RouteID. RouteID information can be obtained from https://transportation.wv.gov/IT/GIS/Pages/DataCatalog.aspx. Although most routes are a representation of a vehicular roadway, other modes of transportation may be represented by routes including select railroads, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and trails, all of which may be built or unbuilt. Where applicable, additional connecting routes may be added without documentation to maintain topological connectivity among other routes in the network. Topological connectors are generally excluded from most total mileage calculations. Refer to other LRS layers for route attribute information such as surface type or route status. Routes in the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) sign system classifications (1-4, 6, and 8) are graphical representations of the signed Commissioner's Orders. Routes in the remaining sign system classifications represent routes provided by other entities, including, but not limited to, municipalities, emergency management authorities, and other local, state, and Federal partners.]]>

All routes are assigned route dominance. If multiple routes share the same underlying geometry (centerline), route dominance rules are applied. Where concurrent routes exist, route dominance is generally assigned to the route that meets the following criteria: lowest sign system number followed by lowest route number followed by highest supplemental code. There are some exceptions where the dominant route does not follow the dominance rules. The general rule for route dominancy is: among all concurrent routes, the route with the lowest sign system code dominates. If more than one route shares the same lowest sign system code the one with the smallest route number dominates. Measures embedded in routes are derived by linear interpolation based on calibration point data collected by using a Distance Measuring Instrument (DMI) except for ramps which use the geometry length to derive measures.Data is sorted by sign system ( 0 = Municipal Non-State Route, 1 = Interstates, 2 = US Route, 3 = State Route, 04 = County Route, 06 = State Park And Forest Route, 7 = Federal Aid Non State Route (FANS), 08 = HARP Route), County Number, and District. This dataset includes all State Maintained Routes including all Interstate, State, US, and County Highways within West Virginia. This dataset does not contain any local and other routes on it. Data was obtained from the US Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Statics United States Railroad Feature Class. which can be found here: https://geo.dot.gov/server/rest/services/Hosted//North_American_Rail_Lines_VT/VectorTileServer. Data was then verified against imagery, official railroad division timetables and track diagrams and publicly obtained radio dispatching frequencies. Information included in this feature are FRA Railroad Node to and From, railroad line ownership, railroad owner short, railroads that have trackage rights over the line, passenger service on the line (Amtrak, Maryland Area Rail Commuter Agency (MARC), Tourist Lines, etc.), Railroad Division, Railroad Subdivision, Railroad Dispatcher. Data is then matched up up to WV GIS Tech center mosaic and cleaned up. Additional railroad lines are added where there are multiple tracks to represent the railroad line. ]]>
