Linework is topological correct as displayed and inspected in ESRI's ArcInfo software.
Tract information is complete as of publication date. Tract information is updated periodically to reflect adjustments to existing tract lines or to incorporate new acquisitions. The most recent updates were completed 06/2011. It reflects adjustments to boundaries in the Smokehole area of the Potomac Ranger District and the addition of Tract 912E and Tract 1403V.
Tracts layer complies with National Map Accuracy Standards (NMAS).

Tracts have been compiled from USFS cartographic feature file data and with local staff review updates. Aerial photography, 1:24000 scale quad maps, and GPS points have been utilized in refining placement of linework. 10/2009 revision incorporates corrections in the Forest Service ownership in the vicinity of the Lower Meadow range allotment.
11/2009 revision incorporates corrections in the Forest Service ownership in the Smokehole area of the Potomac Ranger District.
Updated 07/2010 to reflect adjustments to linework based on legal boundary descriptions and newly GPS'd corner collection.

<DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>National Forest Boundaries were developed by the United States Forest Service and aggregated as a part of USGS's Protected Areas Database, a subset of the National Gap Analysis project. There are several datasets available, each clipped to different extents or containing unique information. Each dataset is described below:</SPAN></P><P><SPAN /></P><P><SPAN>National Forest Proclamation Boundaries, 2017. These data has been clipped to the West Virginia boundary and contains the full extents of lands within the Monongahela, George Washington and the Jefferson National Forests. Since these are proclamation boundaries, the forest service does not own all land within the boundary, but may operate within the area.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>National Forest Surface Ownership Boundaries, 2017. These files contain polygons of the lands within the proclamation boundaries of each forest that the USFS actually owns and/or manages.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>National Forests of the Surrounding Region, 2017. These files are the complete boundaries of the National Forests that abut or are proximal to West Virginia.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN /></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
